Here Kitty Kitty

I grew up in a rural part of Kentucky.  My mother was busy with seven children, but she always had time for sick animals. Feeding cats well was one of her secrets to nursing them back to health. We fed baby birds that were blown out of their nests in storms, we bottle fed a little lamb we called Mary, we raised baby chicks that we hatched at my school, and it seemed that stray dogs and cats were always showing up on our doorstep.  We grew up with a German Shepard and more cats than I can count.  We all loved cats!

Here Kitty Kitty!

Want to  have a healthy kitty?

One of our cats birthed an adorable little tabby, with paralyzed hind legs.  This poor little kitten had to be put on its mother when all of the other kittens fed, because she couldn’t get herself there.  She had to be tended to in every way.  My mom came up with an amazing little invention for this little kitty.  She made a little pallet on wheels.  She cut out a piece of cardboard to fit the kitten’s size, padded it, put a soft cloth on it and attached wheels from one of our toys.  She carefully placed this kittens hind legs on the pallet and tied it on.  The kitten was then able to pull herself around.  She was the runt and only made it about six months.  We all cried!  My suggestions to help you take care of your cat naturally are mostly borrowed from my mom, who taught me to treat our animals with care.

As I have said before, some of my clients have brought their sick animals to me.  I am in no way a vet, but do believe that there are ways to feed your cat that will make them healthy and happy.  Like processed foods for people, processed foods for animals are no better!  What are those mystery byproducts in your cat’s food?  Byproducts are usually things like feet, lungs, spleen, brain, bones, and blood.  Zoo animals, road kill, dead dogs and cats, and diseased animals are also included.  Euthanized animals are also put into pet food.  The chemicals used to kill these animals ends up in your pets food.  Most vitamins and minerals are synthetic and can be found in toxic doses to your pet.  The preservatives and chemicals in these foods, along with the horrible protein choices are costing you a lot of money at the vet.  Raw meat scraps were a regular part of our pet’s diets.  We rarely took our cats to the vet, if ever!  Today, I see people lined up on Saturday mornings to get a free vet consult because their animals are so sick and they can’t afford the bills.  Cats today have kidney disease,( $6,000 kidney transplants), arthritis, cancer, and cardiac problems.  I even know someone who spends money monthly on a prescription medication, to calm her cat down.  Like people, processed food is making our animals sick.

Fresh is best, is my motto for feeding your cat.  What does your cat need for a healthy diet?  Raw protein, raw fats, B-complex vitamins, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, bone meal, (Kal powder) Iodized sea salt, egg yolks, and shredded carrots or steamed winter squashes.  Protein in commercial pet food is cooked.  This kills essential nutrients and enzymes.  Avoiding processed foods is good disease prevention for your cat.  If you prefer not to make your cat’s food, please go to your local health food store and be a label reader.  Check for the above ingredients and make sure you are getting a high quality food.  I would encourage you to get a copy of Healthy Pets with Natures Miracle Cures by Henry Pasternok DVM.  Information from a reliable resource is always helpful to have on hand.  Additionally, Dr. Weston Price has a great study he conducted on cats fed a cooked protein diet compared to those fed a raw diet.  The proof is in the pudding.  You can access this online.  Meanwhile here are a few tips to keep your kitty healthy and happy!

1.     Get rid of all commercial pet food

2.     Purchase an organic raw protein cat food from the health food store

3.     Make your own cat food using raw wholesome ingredients like these:

A.    3 lbs of raw organic chicken or turkey

B.     1 cup of water

C.     2 raw egg yolks

D.    2 teaspoons Kal bone meal powder

E.     400iu full spectrum vitamin E gel cap (puncture and squeeze into the mix)

F.     2 Tablespoons olive oil, coconut oil, or butter

G.    2,000mg taurine ( vital amino acid)

H.    2 Table spoons nutritional yeast (Kal brand)  for vital B vitamins

I.       ¾ teaspoon iodized Sea Salt

J.       Fiber of your choice.  Either 2 tablespoons Apple pectin or Guar Gum, or shredded carrots.  Play with these until your cat has a soft, regular stool. You will be amazed at how your cat’s stool not longer stinks!

Enjoy your healthy kitty and having fewer vet bills!
